True Friends are Crazy Too

True friends are the ones who don't think you are mad when you tell them you don't want to grow up.
They are the ones who pretend not to know you in the supermarket and then fake a fight with you in public.
True friends don't take you seriously, but know when to listen with a serious ear.
They carry you when you can't walk, they make jokes when you can't talk
and they will happily join you on your quest for Neverland!

Love me in December

"Will you love me in December as you do in May,
Will you love me in the good old fashioned way?
When my hair has all turned gray,
Will you kiss me then and say,
That you love me in December as you do in May?"

- James Walker

Happy Anniversary...

30 Years...

...is how long my parents have been married today, 17 December 2010.
My mom had just turned 20 and my dad was a mere 21 when they exchanged vows in 1980 and 30 years, countless ups and downs and four children later, they still have the world to talk about, cannot imagine life without one another and still look into each other's eyes with utter devotion.

To those of you who do not believe in fairy tale love, these two people are proof of its existence...

Some pictures of their three decades together...

And my absolute favourite, their Sound of Music moment in Austria....

In the Mood for... Something Beautiful

Zhang Jingna, only 22 years of age, was an expert with an air rifle at 14, but became an expert with a camera at age 20 and now shoots for countless high profile clients, such as Harper's Bazaar Singapore, Elle, Lancôme and Random House Publishing. She is the youngest ever recipient of Fellowship in the Master Photographer's Association and divides her time between Singapore and Los Angeles.

Her photographs are romantic, intriguing and fantastical. The magical, mysterious and almost ominous atmosphere in her work is what grabs every viewer.

The Mysterious

Rocky Horrifically Spectacular

I've seen this crazy musical on stage twice, I've done the "Time Warp" for wacky show, I've listened to both the CD and the Vinyl LP record (my parents are huge fans) and last night I finally experienced the 1975 film with Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, the great Meatloaf and creator Richard O'Brien.

Scary? In a good way.
Questionable? Definitely.
Shocking? Of course
Not for the Faint Hearted? NOT for the Faint Hearted.
Good? Yes.
Fun? Without a doubt!

Frank: "It was strange the way it happened. Suddenly... you get a break! All of the pieces seem to fit into place. What a sucker you've been, what a fool. The answer was there all the time. It took a small aciddent to make it happen. AN ACCIDENT! And that is how I discovered the secret. That elusive ingredient, that... spark that is the breath of life... yes I have that knowledge! I hold the key to life... ITSELF!"

Stormy Monday

They call it stormy Monday, but Tuesday's just as bad
They call it stormy Monday, but Tuesday's just as bad
Wednesday's worse, and Thursday's also sad

Yes the eagle flies on Friday, and Saturday I go out to play
Eagle flies on Friday, and Saturday I go out to play
Sunday I go to church, then I kneel down and pray

Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy on me
Lord have mercy, my heart's in misery
Crazy about my baby, yes, send her back to me.

A Winter's Day in Summer

It's the middle of summer in South Africa, but that doesn't mean we don't have to throw on the odd jersey and tights... This is an outfit experiment for a chilly winter's day in summer - I stole the shoes from my mom's closet (her 80's pieces are perfect for 2010!)

How Do You Like Your Coffee?

I wonder what Da Vinci would think of this new version of one of his masterpieces. This Mona Lisa was built in Sydney, Australia with 3604 cups of coffee each filled with different amounts of milk to create different shades. So... how do you like your coffee?

Summer Rain

It might be the middle of snowy winter in the northern hemisphere, but the only cold we're feeling in the south is the occasional beautiful summer rains. We aren't wearing boots and coats, but the storms give us more than enough chances to cool down...

"There's always a period of curious fear between the first sweet-smelling breeze and the time when the rain comes cracking down."
- Don Dilillo

Paolo Roversi and the Meaning of Magic

Paolo Roversi was born in Ravenna in 1947 and started out in a cellar for a darkroom. Some of his first jobs included photographing a funeral and celebrities, but he moved to Paris in 1973 and after working as a journalist for the Huppert Agency, he turned to fashion photography. He has worked for a large variety of fahion magazined, including Elle, Depeche Mode and Marie Claire (who gave him his first big break.)

I love how he makes his subjects seem mysterious, intriguing, maybe even out of this world.

"Photography goes beyond the limits of reality and illusion. It brushes up against another life, another dimension, revealing not only what is there but was is no there. Every photograph is an encounter, an intimate, reciprocal confession."
- Paolo Roversi

Photography is art, but in his photos, there is a romantic meeting between fine art and photography.

"Like any art worthy of the name, the most brazen lie can evolve into surprising and seductive truth."
- Paolo Roversi
